How unused urban brownfield sites became transformed into beautiful community gardens

All began with a public meeting in 2012.

The aim was to find out if people around Fountainbridge were interested in creating a garden, somewhere for people to learn to grow and care for plants and vegetables. Local people were consulted and when it was discovered that a site was available for temporary use in form of a garden things really took off. It turned out people wanted to grow food in the city centre.

The overall design of the garden was created by our gardners and drawn up together with a landscape architect and as construction and planting took place, The Grove was born.

Please read more about the history in the leaflet that was put together by Stan Reeves (text) and Lucy Munro (design). Download the flyer 140604_Grove History flyer
